The Cyprus Ministry for shipping is preparing a new strategic vision for Cyprus shipping sector that will determine the future of the maritime industry.

Cyprus shipping’s new strategic approach is dubbed “SEA”, which stands for sustainable, extrovert and adaptable.

The campaign focuses on four phases:

1. Environmental sustainability

2. Digital transformation

3. Global persisting challenges
(a) Social issues – seafarers’ living and working conditions, crew changes and seafarers’ vaccination
(b) Piracy and armed robbery against ships:

4. Issues pertaining to maritime transport activities of high local and regional interest such as coastal navigation, marine pollution, maritime education.

The aim of the campaign is:

  • The adoption of a green model to all operations and the support of shipowners on their pathway to decarbonization and reduced emissions.
  • Improving digital transformation by embracing infrastructures and operations and improved safety regulations.
  • Increasing healthcare and deliver COVID-19 vaccinations to seafarers and creating a one-stop-shop concept increasing efficiency of services for citizens and the shipping industry.

This holistic approach to Cyprus maritime policies focuses on strengthening the blue economy to achieve further growth and develop leading role of Cyprus in global maritime affairs and creating strong international relations and alliances.
